Washington Regional Medical System dedicated its new J.B. Hunt Transport Services Cancer Support Home in Fayetteville on Thursday.
The 9,980-square-foot facility is the only one of its kind in Northwest Arkansas, and services are offered at no charge to patients regardless of where they receive care. The new building was made possible by gifts from donors including J.B. Hunt Transport Services, for which the facility is named.
“We wanted to be part of easing the burden and relieving some of the stress of an already stressful situation for cancer patients and their families.” Washington Regional President and CEO Larry Shackelford said in a statement.
Construction began in February 2020, and the facility began welcoming clients in March 2021. Since that time, it has provided 177 nights of overnight lodging to 18 families.
