In Washington County, UpStart Thrift Store and StartUp Junkie Foundation will be awarding a small local business up to $5,000 in grant funding for the first time ever.
Launched this past June at its 235 Main St. location in Farmington, UpStart Thrift Store operates with an all-volunteer workforce, reselling clothing and homewares. Utilities and rent costs notwithstanding, all funds generated finance Kiva loans and small business grants to entrepreneurs and other Washington County small business owners.
With its NKW Kiva Hub – directed by the Startup Junkie Foundation and aided by the Walton Family Foundation – Kiva is an international organization offering 0% interest loans of $1,000 to $15,000 to small businesses. UpStart Thrift will assist in these loans by offsetting interest costs of the loans with store proceeds, to keep the loans at 0% interest to borrowers.
UpStart Thrift is a part of the Startup Junkie Foundation – a 501c3 nonprofit based in Fayetteville. Startup Junkie exists to strengthen and back small businesses, innovators and other startups through its programs, guidance, happenings and funding.
