A new $360,000 gift will enable the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS) to increase its support for nursing excellence in Northwest Arkansas.
The Harvey and Bernice Jones Charitable Trust made the $360,000 donation to create the Harvey and Bernice Jones Endowed Fund for Nursing Excellence. This endowment will be used over the course of the coming six years to provide scholarships to graduate-level nursing students in Northwest Arkansas and support UAMS College of Nursing in the Northwest Arkansas region.
“Gifts from the Jones Charitable Trust, when complemented with grants from Excellerate Foundation, have the potential to transform nursing education and nursing care in Northwest Arkansas,” Patricia Cowan, Ph.D., RN, dean of the UAMS College of Nursing, said in a statement. “Our nursing students will benefit from this generosity for years to come.”
The Jones family began contributing to UAMS in 1985 and established the Harvey & Bernice Jones Eye Institute at the UAMS Little Rock campus. The family’s trust also played a critical role in expanding the UAMS College of Nursing to Northwest Arkansas.
