A University of Arkansas professor has been named the 2020 SEC Professor of the Year.
Southeastern Conference (SEC) Commissioner Greg Sankey announced on Monday, April 20, that Marlon Blackwell, an architecture professor at the University of Arkansas, has received the annual honor.
One faculty member from an SEC member institution is recognized every year for achievement in teaching and research. The winners are chosen among the 14 SEC Faculty Achievement Award recipients by the SEC provosts.
“The SEC Professor of the Year Award provides a special opportunity to recognize one of the many SEC faculty whose commitment to students remains undeterred, even while they also make meaningful contributions in their fields,” Sankey said in a statement. “Professor Blackwell is a shining example of the caliber of educator encountered by SEC students, and he exemplifies all that we expect a faculty member to be in the Southeastern Conference.”
Blackwell is a Distinguished Professor and the E. Fay Jones Chair in Architecture at the University of Arkansas as well as a practicing architect. He has been inducted into the National Academy of Design and received the 2020 American Institute of Architects Gold Medal.
His firm, Marlon Blackwell Architects, was ranked #1 in 2016 Architect 50, a national survey of architecture firms.
