Two Arkansas airports have received $2.9 million in grant funding from the U.S. Department of Transportation. The Arkansas grants are part of a $485 million funding package distributed by the department.
The two Arkansas airports are Drake Field and Pine Bluff Regional Airport. Drake Field, located in Washington County, received $1.1 million that has been designated for improving a terminal building. Pine Bluff Regional Airport received $1.8 million to build a taxiway.
U.S. Secretary of Transportation Elaine Chao announced a total of $485 million in grants, which have been distributed to 108 airports in 48 states, as well as the U.S. territories of Guam and the Virgin Islands.
“The robust economy is enabling more passengers to travel by air so this Administration is investing billions of dollars in America’s airports which will address safer airport operations, fewer airport delays, and greater ease of travel for air travelers,” Chao said in a statement.
According to Chao, more than $10 billion has been invested in American airports since 2017.
