Gov. Asa Hutchinson has named a new director of communications for his office.
Arkansas television veteran Shealyn Sowers will be taking over the top communications role, succeeding Katie Beck in the role. Beck served as communications director, following the departure of longtime Hutchinson aide J.R. Davis, from Oct. 1, 2019 through May 14, 2021.
Most recently, Sowers served as an executive producer at KARK and FOX16.
“Shealyn grew up in Arkansas, went to high school and college in Arkansas, and has worked her entire career as a journalist in Arkansas,” Gov. Hutchinson said in a statement. “To put it simply, Shealyn knows the Natural State. She has an intimate understanding of Arkansas and Arkansans that has prepared her well to serve the state as my director of communications.”
A Clinton native, Sowers obtained degrees in accounting and broadcast journalism, joining KARK in 2012 as an associate producer and was named executive producer and produced KARK’s ‘Capitol View’ program.
Sowers is set to begin her new role on Wednesday, June 16.
