Following her announcement that she plans to run for the Arkansas Governor’s Office in 2022, Sarah Huckabee Sanders has lined up an endorsement from her old boss, former President Donald Trump.
In a social media blog post, Sanders revealed the endorsement, thanking Trump for his support. Trump called Sanders a “warrior who will always fight for the people of Arkansas and do what is right, not what is politically correct.”
Sanders served as a senior advisor for Trump’s 2016 presidential run and later became deputy press secretary. She later became the White House press secretary following the departure of Sean Spicer, serving in the role from July 2017 through June 2019.
Trump and Sanders reportedly cultivated a close working relationship. When Sanders left the White House, Trump tweeted that Sanders should run for the Governor’s Office in Arkansas. “She is a very special person with extraordinary talents, who has done an incredible job,” Trump tweeted. “I hope she decides to run for Governor of Arkansas — she would be fantastic.”
Sanders announced her plans to run in the 2022 election on Jan. 25 after long speculation that she would throw her hat in the ring. Currently, she faces fellow Republicans Lt. Gov. Tim Griffin and Attorney General Leslie Rutledge. There are no Democratic Party challengers so far.
