Gov. Asa Hutchinson made 11 appointments to the Arkansas State Board of Health with most being reappointments.
On Wednesday, May 26, Hutchinson announced that he was reappointing 10 individuals to the State Board of Health and making one new appointment. The 10 reappointments include Dr. Glen Bryant of West Memphis, Dr. Dwayne Daniels of El Dorado, Vanessa Falwell of Newport, Dr. Darren Flamik of Roland, Dr. Anthony Hui of West Fork, Dr. David Kiessling of Bigelow, Dr. Balan Nair of Little Rock, Donald Ragland of Marshall, Dr. Carl Riddell of Russellville and Dr. James Zini of Mountain View.
The new appointment was James Bailey of Springdale, who replaces Thomas Jones. Bailey’s appointment expires Dec. 31, 2024.
All of the reappointed Board of Health members’ terms also expire on Dec. 31, 2024.
In total, there are 23 members on the state Board of Health. The other members include Lane Crider of Lowell, Perry Amerine of Little Rock, Stephanie Barnes Beerman of Mount Ida, Marsha Boss of Little Rock, Brad Erney of Jonesboro, Melissa Faulknberry of Little Rock, Phillip Gilmore of Crossett, Clay Waliski of Carlisle, Susan Weinstein of Little Rock and Terry Yamauchi of Little Rock, along with Arkansas Department of Health Secretary Dr. Jose Romero and Arkansas Surgeon General Dr. Greg Bledsoe.
According to the Department of Health website, the State Board of Health is charged with making rules for the “protection of the public health and safety, general improvement of the sanitary and hygienic conditions within the state,” as well as suppressing and preventing infectious diseases, enforcing quarantine and isolation of diseases.
