Early voters in Garland County discovered that their ballots were incomplete on Monday, with one candidate left off of the secretary of state race.
Susan Inman, a Democrat running for secretary of state, was left off of the early voting ballots in Garland County. Due to the error, the early voting polling sites were temporarily shut down. Early voting for the 2018 mid-term elections began Monday, Oct. 22.
However, over 200 votes had already been cast before the omission was reported. Early voting has reportedly resumed in the county.
A compliant has been filed with the State Board of Election Commissioners. The compliant, filed by Chris Burks, reads, “All four early vote locations were closed for a time. Election Commission. closed…ballots did not have choice for Susan Inman for Secretary of State.
Democratic Party of Arkansas Communications Director Reed Brewer issued a statement in support of Burks and calling upon state officials to “properly train, support and fund our local election commissions…”
Inman is running for the secretary of state position against Republican John Thurson, currently the Arkansas Commissioner of State Lands, and Libertarian Christopher Olson. Mark Martin, the current secretary of state, cannot seek reelection due to term limits.
