The Arkansas Department of Agriculture recently awarded $20,000 in scholarships to students attending Arkansas universities with agricultural programs. The universities include Arkansas State University, Southern Arkansas University, the University of Arkansas, and Arkansas Tech University.
“The Arkansas Department of Agriculture is pleased to provide funding to help these deserving students further their education and prepare for potential careers in agriculture, our state’s largest industry,” said Arkansas Secretary of Agriculture, Wes Ward.
Civil penalties collected by the Arkansas Department of Agriculture provides the funding for the scholarships. Each institution receives $5,000 annually and has its own process for selecting the scholarship recipients and the amounts awarded to each.
Scholarship recipients from Arkansas State University include Jacob Holloway and Landon G. Smith, both of whom are majoring in Agriculture Economics and Finance at the university. Southern Arkansas University recipients include Hannah Boyte, Hannah Helms, Courtland Mixon – all Agriculture Business majors. Cheyenne Massey, Agricultural Education major at Arkansas Tech University also received a scholarship, and Kelby Biswell, Horticulture, Landscape, and Turf Sciences and Agricultural Education major was University of Arkansas’ recipient.
