The Arkansas Razorbacks will take on North Carolina in game 1 of the Chapel Hill Super Regional on Saturday at 10 a.m. CST.
The Hogs’ hard-fought series win in Stillwater, Okla., over the weekend qualified the Arkansas baseball team for the Super Regional matchup with the Tar Heels. It marks the fourth consecutive year the Diamond Hogs have advanced at least that far in the NCAA college baseball tournament.
The “supers” are the equivalent of the Sweet 16 in basketball. The best-of-three series begins Saturday morning at 10 with game 2 scheduled for noon, central time, on Sunday. Game three, if necessary, would be played Monday at a time to be determined.
The Tar Heels won the ACC tournament and are the No. 10 overall seed. Following a disappointing finish to the regular season, the Hogs were a 2-seed in the Stillwater Regional, where they beat No. 7 Oklahoma State in the regional final.
The Hogs defeated 3-seed Grand Canyon, 7-1, in their first game of what became a wild Stillwater Regional, then exploded for eight runs in the 8th inning to cap a comeback 20-12 win over Oklahoma State and move into the regional final. The Cowboys avoided elimination with their own wild, 29-15 win over Missouri State, then forced a game 2 in the regional final with a 14-10 win over the Hogs in 10 innings.
Dave Van Horn’s club then rode clutch pitching to earn a 7-3 win over OSU in the regional final. Winning two in Chapel Hill would advance the Hogs to the program’s 11th College World Series in Omaha.
