When we decided to ask our readers to vote for their “Most Admired” companies in Arkansas, we knew we might be opening up the floodgates. And that’s what we did.
Arkansas is filled with so many great companies and hard-working people who make those companies great; it’s almost like a parent trying to choose a favorite child. But AMP readers delivered, selecting their Most Admired companies in 36 categories from advertising to utilities.
Inside, we list those firms selected by AMP readers. (We actually list 37 Arkansas companies and organizations because believe it or not, we had a tie in one category.) We’re not saying these are the best, necessarily, but there’s no denying they are among the most popular in the state.
Next month, we’ll introduce another new feature — the Future 50. It’ll be our look at those Arkansas business leaders who represent the future in their respective industries. A panel of judges will select the Future 50 from nominations submitted by you. Check out our website — armoneyandpolitics.com — to place your nomination. Nominations are open through June 9, so if you haven’t nominated yet, the clock’s ticking.
Along with many other Arkansans, I was disappointed when I first heard that the iconic McClard’s in Hot Springs was being sold. But we were then thrilled to discover that the family was selling to a local restaurateur who plans on keeping the old barbecue joint just as it is.
Inside, we catch up with the new owners. Change is inevitable, of course, and necessary. But there are some institutions that need to stay just as they are. McClard’s is one of ‘em.
