President Donald Trump on Thursday announced his intention to nominate Gov. Asa Hutchinson to a two-year term on the 10-member Council of Governors.
“President Trump’s nomination is an honor for me and for Arkansas,” Hutchinson said. “It will be a privilege for me to represent our state and to serve the nation as a member of the Council of Governors. With key military installations in Arkansas, it is an important opportunity to serve on the council, which advises on national defense and security issues.”
Trump’s announcement of his intent to appointment Hutchinson to the Council of Governors was included in a press release Thursday that announced several key appointments.
The Council of Governors was created by the National Defense Authorization Act for FY 2008 and formally established by Executive Order on January 11, 2010. The Council is intended to serve as a mechanism for governors and key federal officials to address matters pertaining to the National Guard, homeland defense, and defense support to civil authorities.
