The Arkansas Association of Educational Administrators (AAEA) has named Little Rock School District (LRSD) superintendent Mike Poore as the 2021 Arkansas Superintendent of the Year. Poore received the award during a LRSD board meeting on Sept. 17.
The Arkansas Superintendent of the Year Award is designed to recognize school leaders across the state. These leaders are selected based on “leadership for learning, communication, professionalism, and community involvement,” according to a AAEA news release.
Poore will now go on to compete for the National Superintendent of the Year award against superintendents from all 50 states.
Now in his fifth year at LRSD, Poore is a 36-year education professional. He joined the district in 2016.
Previously he served in administrative roles in Colorado Springs, Colo., Sheridan School District in Denver, Colo. and Bentonville Public Schools. He holds a bachelor’s degree from Colorado State University and a master’s degree from the University of Colorado.
