The Northwest Arkansas Chapter of the NAACP announced Tuesday afternoon that it will be hosting its annual scholarship fundraiser for students to receive a $1,000 educational scholarship. The fundraising event will be held on Monday, Nov. 8 at 7 P.M. This year, the Northwest Arkansas Chapter has eight recipients, and hopes to raise more than $6,000 in order to provide more scholarship awards for next year’s applicants.
The NAACP was founded in 1909 and is a widely recognized grassroots-based civil rights organization. The Northwest Arkansas Branch of the NAACP focuses on improving the political, educational, social, and economic status of minorities as well as working to eliminate racial prejudice.
This year’s program “will highlight stories of resilience and grit in the local communities of Northwest Arkansas and beyond.” The organization will host a special guest speaker along with musical and spoken word presentations throughout the evening. The public can join the event on Nov. 8 by visiting the NWA NAACP Youtube Channel and providing a financial gift of any amount to help reach the $6,000 goal.
