Murphy USA has hit a company milestone: its 1,500th store.
The El Dorado-based convenience store chain opened its new location in Mesquite, Texas. The 2,800 square-foot Murphy Express store is also the company’s 47th store opening in 2020.
“The opening of our 1500th location represents another important milestone for the company as we work to deliver on our goal of growing our network up to 50 new stores each year beginning in 2021,” Murphy USA president and CEO Andrew Clyde said in a statement.
This new store, which will be open 24 hours a day, is located at 1101 U.S. 80 Frontage Road in Mesquite. It is Murphy USA’s ninth location in the Dallas-Fort Worth region to open in 2020.
“The success in securing and opening new stores is a multi-year commitment that cannot be accomplished without the support of the entire organization. Our 1500th store milestone is just the latest in a series of milestones that started with our first store in Chattanooga, Tenn.,” director of real estate Stephen Oliver said.
This is the second major milestone that Murphy USA has made this week. On Monday, Dec. 14, Murphy USA announced its acquisition of QuickChek, a convenience store chain based in New York state and New Jersey. The acquisition, which is expected to close in the first quarter of 2021, is worth $645 million in an all-cash deal.
In October 2020, Murphy USA reported as part of its 3Q financial report that it had increased its net income in 2020, with a net haul of $325.1 million, compared to $107.8 million at the same time in 2019. However, its third quarter net income had dropped year-over-year from $69.2 million in 2019 to $66.9 million in 2020.
According to a Murphy USA news release, the company operates gasoline stations in 25 states.
