The Missouri Highways and Transportation Commission has awarded funding to complete a five-mile strip of I-49 that will connect into Arkansas.
The commission awarded $58.7 million for the I-49 Missouri/Arkansas Connector project to Emery Sapp & Sons Inc. of Columbia, Mo. This project will complete the final five miles of the interstate between Pineville, Mo. and the Missouri/Arkansas state line, according to the Missouri Department of Transportation.
Construction is slated to begin in late April or early May. It is unknown if or how the current COVID-19 pandemic will affect this time schedule. It is expected to be completed by Sept. 30, 2021.
Once the Missouri/Arkansas Connector is completed, I-49 will stretch 250 miles from Kansas City, Mo. to Fort Smith.
