Little Rock Mayor Frank Scott Jr. announced during a COVID-19 press conference on Thursday that he is reissuing a mask mandate for the city.
This mandate states that masks must be worn on city and public property. Scott encouraged businesses and restaurants to enforce mask mandates as well.
Scott said that this mandate comes after recommendations from the COVID-19 task force.
“There is no more time to wait,” Scott said during the press conference. “It is time to act…it is time to put back on a mask.”
Scott noted that the decision is likely an unpopular one with many people.
“We have to put these safety measures back in place, and we will continue to do what’s best for the city of Little Rock. We strongly exhort all of our businesses to follow suit. I know this is not a popular decision, but it is the right thing to do.”
Little Rock is under a state of emergency until Aug. 31.
