Many in broadcast management will tell you that maintaining the No. 1 position in ratings is harder than bringing about ratings increases. They reason, after all, that when you are No. 1, you have a target on your back.
If that’s the case, KATV Channel 7 makes staying on top look easy. The latest Nielsen ratings for the November time period has KATV on top in all major news casts.
KATV General Manager Mark Rose said,,
“Christmas came a little early this year,” said KATV General Manager Mark Rose, speaking of the latest ratings sweep. “It is rewarding to see [the news staff’s] efforts recognized by the viewers.”
November ratings shown here are in households (HH):
Morning:
- KATV — 8.2
- KTHV — 5.5
- KARK — 3.5
5 p.m. news:
- KATV — 12.1
- KARK — 6.8
- KTHV — 6.2
6 p.m. news:
- KATV — 14.8
- KTHV — 6.0
- KARK — 5.9
Both KTHV and KARK showed modest improvement from the July ratings, but KATV still has more viewers than the other two stations combined at 6 p.m.
10 p.m. news:
- KATV — 9.0
- KTHV — 6.9
- KARK — 4.6
For the 10 p.m. news, KTHV ratings remained the same from the July report. KARK, while still third, moved up from a 4.0 to a 4.6.
KATV News Director Nick Genty is quoted in a Channel 7 press release as saying
“We couldn’t be happier that once again, Arkansans turn to KATV for the most updated news, weather, sports and traffic,” KATV News Director Nick Genty said in a news release from the station.
