Coming off a 9-4 season capped by the program’s first New Year’s Day bowl win in 11 years, the Arkansas Razorbacks will open fall camp for the 2022 season the first week of August in Fayetteville.
The season opener is scheduled for Saturday, Sept. 3, in Fayetteville against Cincinnati. The Hogs are picked to finish as high as third in the SEC West and as high as No. 13 in preseason polls. The Bearcats went undefeated in the regular season last year and made the College Football Playoff. They are ranked anywhere from 20th to 25th in most preseason polls.
Star quarterback KJ Jefferson, an early darkhorse candidate for the Heisman Trophy, is back for the Hogs, as is all-American safety Jalen Catalon, who missed most of the ’21 season with injury.
Head coach Sam Pittman, entering his third season on the Hill, was one of 20 coaches named to the 2022 preseason watch list for the Bobby Dodd Coach of the Year Award, presented each year to the top FBS coach.
After hosting Cincinnati in the opener, the Hogs will open SEC play with South Carolina at home on Sept. 10; host former UA coach Bobby Petrino and Missouri State on Sept. 17; take on Texas A&M in the annual Southwest Classic in Dallas on Sept. 24; and host Alabama on Oct. 1. Then the Hogs face three straight road trips sandwiched around a bye week on Oct. 22 — at Mississippi State, at BYU and at Auburn. Liberty, coached by former Ole Miss coach Hugh Freeze, will be in Fayetteville on Nov. 5 for Homecoming; the Hogs then host LSU on Nov. 12, Ole Miss on Nov. 19 and close on the Friday after Thanksgiving at Missouri.
