As of 11:11 p.m. CST on Tuesday, November 8, 41% of the votes are in, according to Politico, Scott Jr. has received 51.1 % of votes with 30,322 total votes, while Steve Landers received 39.2% of votes with 23,273 total votes. Greg Henderson received 8.1% of votes with 940 total votes and Glen Schwarz received 1.6% of votes, with a total of 940 votes.
Scott Jr., as the incumbent, has served as the Mayor of Little Rock since Jan, 1. 2019. In announcing his run for reelection, Scott explained that he was entering the race because he believes that while Little Rock has made tremendous progress, he believes there is more to be done in terms of job growth, economic development across the entire city and stronger neighborhood safety, according to his campaign website.
Landers is known in Arkansas as the owner of the largest auto group in the state, a philanthropist and an advocate, according to his campaign website. Landers ran on the platform of fighting crime in Little Rock with a three step plan, consisting of: 1. Building a team with the Little Rock Police Department, the North Little Rock Police Department, Pulaski County Sheriff’s Office, Arkansas State Police and Federal Drug Enforcement Agency to coordinate crime-stopping events; 2. Fund better technology and training for law enforcement including body cameras, internet technology, neighborhood networking and drones for first responders; and 3. Recruit trained and certified police officers to have more patrols on the street.
Schwarz previously ran for the Governor of Arkansas in the 2014 election as a Libertarian, where he lost the Libertarian nomination to Frank Gilbert. In his previous experience, Schwarz was also a 2012 Libertarian candidate for District 31 of the Arkansas State Senate.
Henderson ran for mayor on the platform of making sure Little Rock is a great place to live, that public safety efforts improve, neighborhoods are strengthened, small businesses are invested in and transparency and accountability are more important than ever, according to his campaign website.
