Joan Botts, the former vice president of Marketing for Hot Springs’ Oaklawn Racing Casino Resort, is now the Regional Director of Marketing for Choctaw Casino and Resort Durant in Oklahoma.
Botts has worked as a senior marketer in various gaming markets, including Mississippi, Missouri, Louisiana, Arkansas and now Oklahoma. Botts and her family moved from Shreveport, Louisiana (where she lived for 14 years) to Hot Springs when she joined Oaklawn Racing Casino Resort.
As vice president of Marketing for Oaklawn, Botts oversaw all marketing initiatives for the racing, casino and resort aspects of Oaklawn – advertising, signage, media relations, PR, social media, direct mail, promotions, events, VIP, player services, reserved seats (racing), gift shops/retail, entertainment and sponsorships/partnerships/donations.
The new Choctaw Casino & Resort Durant features over 7,000 slot machines, over 100 table games, a state-of-the-art poker room, dining options at 16 restaurants and entertainment at the Grand Theater and Gilley’s. Durant also features The District, with bowling, an arcade and six movie theaters, as well as a spa and pool location – Aqua at Sky Tower – furnished with private cabanas. The resort has 1,700 hotel rooms in a AAA Four Diamond hotel.
Born outside of Chicago, Botts is a Public Relations graduate of the University of Southern California. She grew up in Wilmington, Delaware and Memphis, Tennessee; lived in Los Angeles for eight years; then returned to Memphis and started a 15+ year career in the casino/gaming industry. Since graduating college, Botts’ experience also includes working in the music industry, as well as handling marketing projects and events for the NBC-TV affiliate in Shreveport.
