The University of Arkansas has announced that applications for its Folk and Traditional Arts Apprenticeship Program are now open. Arkansas Folk and Traditional Arts is a state-wide program by University of Arkansas Libraries “dedicated to building cross-cultural understanding by documenting, presenting, and sustaining Arkansas’ living traditional arts and cultural heritage.”
Applications are open to both prospective masters and apprentices, and the program will provide up to $3,000 to fund a long-term apprenticeship. Master and apprentice will be matched based on their applications, then must formulate a work plan for the course of the apprenticeship, meet with each other regularly and then share their experiences with their communities at the end of the project.
Applications must be submitted either by email or postmark by Aug. 31 for the period of November 2022 to May 2023. More information and the application form can be found here.
