Arkansas’ rural nurses will now have the opportunity to earn a scholarship to receive training through the AgriSafe Nurse Scholar program. These scholarships will be provided by the Farm Credit Associations of Arkansas (FCAA).
The program is intended to train nurses to support the health needs of Arkansas farmers, as the risks and occupational exposures present in farming and ranching are not common practice for healthcare workers. Recipients of the scholarship will be given access to 18 hours of online programing, which will include distance learning and will cover a range of topics.
- Integration of ag health into a medical practice
- Special populations (youth, older adult, veterans, immigrant and migrant workers)
- Zoonotic diseases
- Chemical/pesticide exposure
- Personal protective equipment
- Skin disorders
The FCAA will award scholarships to three nurses, one from each of the following areas: western Arkansas, Central Arkansas and eastern Arkansas. Those interested in the scholarship can find the application instructions here.
