“I think one of the biggest opportunities the rural communities have is the collaborative nature that supports organizations,” she says. “There are strong assets in every community. Arkansas is such a small state that when thinking of Central Arkansas those assets are not always isolated into one specific area. They’re able to be utilized regionally.”

A Little Rock construction and fabrication company is planning to making a significant investment in solar energy to alleviate business costs.
Lexicon Fabricators and Constructors is working with Seal Solar to install nearly 11,000 solar panels at its facilities. Seal Solar is set to develop two solar arrays at Lexicon’s locations at Carlisle and Blytheville.

Little Rock Mayor Proposes Penny Sales Tax Initiative for Quality of Life Improvements
In his annual State of the City address, Little Rock Mayor Frank Scott Jr. called on residents to invest in the city’s growth through a new sales tax initiative. He proposed adding a new one-cent sales tax in order to “lift Little Rock to higher heights.”
“While 2019 was full of growth, it did not come without difficult decision. Last spring, we rightsized city government to align ongoing expenses with ongoing revenue. This was necessary for us to be good stewards of taxpayer dollars,” Scott said in his weekly “Little Rock This Week” video address.

Fulbright Scholar Aims to Create Network to Promotion Inclusion in Sports
Moscow native Olga Khokhryakova has only called Fayetteville home for six months, but she’s ready to make waves in the world of social entrepreneurship with her latest venture. The University of Arkansas graduate student is developing an online platform, called SameSport, aimed at improving equity in the world of sports by connecting people with and without disabilities over shared activities.
According to Khokhryakova, the first step is to create a database of adaptive sport clubs for people with disabilities. “Today, people simply are not aware of opportunities to do sports, because clubs usually do not have resources for promotion,” she said.

A-State Considering the Possibility of Adding a Veterinary School
Currently, students looking to go to veterinary school must go outside of Arkansas to pursue their education. Multiple schools, including the University of Arkansas and A-State, have pre-veterinary or animal science programs but no dedicated post-graduate veterinary school.
