Conway Regional Health System has been accredited for its Family Medicine Residency program. The health system received its initial accreditation from the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME).
The program is expected to launch its first class of residents in July 2020.
With the new program, officials expect that more Arkansas medical students will be able to complete a residency in-state.
“Receiving accreditation for our first Graduate Medical Education Program is a result of our team identifying a need and coming together to develop and implement a solution,” Matt Troup, President and CEO of Conway Regional Health System, said in a statement. “In Conway, or the City of Colleges, education is a part of the fabric of our community. Because of this, a Family Medicine Residency program made sense for our health system and for our community. Our program will train a generation of physicians who are critical thinkers, compassionate providers, skilled clinicians, and future leaders in medicine.”
Four residents are slated to participate in the first class. The Residency Matching Program will be held in March 2020, and the first day of residency is July 1, 2020.
