Arkansas Heritage has announced the promotion of longtime employee Daniel P. Cockrell as director of the Old State House Museum in Little Rock. Cockrell has been with the museum since 2005 with a focus on education. His first day as director was May 29, 2022.
The Old State House Museum is the original state capitol building of Arkansas and the oldest standing state capitol building west of the Mississippi River. Since 1833, when construction began, the building and its grounds have witnessed many of the most important events in Arkansas history. Today, the museum’s exhibits and events are open to the public.
Cockrell holds a Master of Arts in History from the University of Central Arkansas. Prior to his work with the Old State House, he was an adjunct professor at the University of Arkansas Pulaski Technical College in Little Rock and the dean of students, teachers and athletic administrator at Palestine-Wheatley Schools in Palestine, Ark.
