Chris Jones, Democratic candidate for Governor of Arkansas, kicked off his statewide ‘The Promise of Arkansas Tour’ with a campaign rally in North Little Rock over the weekend. Jones, former director of the Innovation Hub in North Little Rock, is considered the Democratic frontrunner for the 2022 gubernatorial election in which Arkansans will select a replacement for term-limited Republican Gov. Asa Hutchinson.
The rally was the flagship event of the first week of Jones’ The Promise of Arkansas Tour where he will visit all 75 counties in 30 days.
Jones discussed signature policy issues during the rally, such as high quality preschool for all families, affordable broadband for every home and economic development focused on creating high-wage jobs, which he describes as his “PB&J” agenda of preschool, broadband and jobs.
“Arkansas is tired. Tired of feeling exhausted. Tired of everyone telling us that we are destined for poverty. Tired of being in the bottom in education and the top in drug addiction,” said Jones. “I know that we can seize this opportunity and realize the Promise of Arkansas, by spreading preschool, broadband and jobs across the state.
Jones is currently up against fellow Democrats Anthony Bland, Jay, Martin, James Russell and Supha Xayprasith-Mays in the 2022 race for Governor, along with Republican candidates Sarah Huckabee Sanders and Pastor Bill Gates, and Libertarian candidate Ricky Dale Harrington Jr.
As of Wednesday Feb. 9, Jones’ tour is in Central Arkansas, visiting White, Faulkner, Conway and Lonoke counties before moving on to Saline and Grant counties on Thursday. Jones is scheduled to meet and share his vision with Arkansans in all 75 counties before March.
