A study is underway to determine the feasibility of converting a former U.S. Air Force base located in Blytheville into a Cold War-focused museum.
According to Jonesboro’s KAIT television station, the study shows that the museum could potentially draw as many as 50,000 tourists to the region annually. Based on this estimate, a study of the base’s structural integrity is being performed to determine the requirements and costs of transforming the space into a museum.
Eaker Air Force Base is located approximately three miles northwest of Blytheville and was operational from 1942 to 1992, when it closed. It was formerly known as the Blytheville Air Force Base.
