September is Prostate Cancer Awareness Month, and in recognition of this, Arkansas Urology will be holding its 18th annual Kickoff to Men’s Health. They will be offering free prostate screenings in five locations across the state, which will include a blood test for Prostate Specific Antigen (PSA) and a digital prostate exam.
“These events can make a real difference. Over the past 17 years of Kickoff to Men’s Health events, Arkansas Urology has provided free screenings close to 8,000, and about 1,500 to 2,000 of those were diagnosed with an enlarged prostate,” said Chris Shenep, director of the Arkansas Urology Foundation. “Arkansas Urology Foundation is dedicated to serving the community, and these annual free screen events are a testament to that.”
Each event is from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Dates and locations are as follow:
- Sept. 8 – Little Rock
- Arkansas Urology at 1300 Centerview Dr. Little Rock
- Sept. 12 – El Dorado
- Arkansas Urology at 619 N Newton Ave in El Dorado
- Sept. 15 – Pine Bluff

- Sept. 20 – Bentonville
- Arkansas Urology at 400 SE Macy Rd Suite 18

The events are especially aimed at reaching the uninsured or underinsured, those who may avoid screening due to anxiety about the procedure or those who are at a higher risk of prostate cancer due to race or other factors. All participants will also be eligible to win door prizes, including a 65-inch television. Arkansas Urology has requested that anyone who is interested register by calling 501-410-1187 or visiting its website.
