Arkansas State Parks is expanding its Monument Trails system with 12 miles of new trails in Devil’s Den State Park in Northwest Arkansas.
On Thursday, May 6, the new trails will be officially dedicated in a ribbon cutting ceremony at the Fossil Flats Trailhead. With this expansion, the Monument Trails system will increase to 18 miles of trail.
“The expansion of this historic trail system is testament to the park system’s long-term commitment to outdoor recreation and the mountain biking community,” Arkansas Department of Parks, Heritage, and Tourism Secretary Stacy Hurst said in a statement.
In total, there will be five new trails in the expansion. These trails include the Devil’s Racetrack, We Can Take It, Dollar-A-Day, Goldbrick and All You Can Eat. The Devil’s Racetrack, at approximately 4 miles, will be the longest of the new trails.
The Monument Trails, opened in 2019, were designed to serve as destination trails for mountain biking. The trails were developed by the Arkansas Parks and Recreation Foundation, which was funded privately and through grants, including a $2 million Walton Family Foundation grant to develop the first Monument Trail at Hobbs State Park.
“The Monument Trails are designed with an entire family in mind. The simple goal is to provide an unforgettable experience along the trail that will inspire you to seek, find and discover our state and build a sense of pride and appreciation,” Arkansas Parks and Recreation Foundation executive director Suzanne Grobmyer said. “The Monument Trails are going to change the dynamic for communities across the state by improving quality of life and creating new economic activity.”
