The Arkansas State Capitol is expected to reopen to the public in June.
Arkansas Secretary of State John Thurston announced that the Capitol will reopen on Monday, June 1 for limited hours. The building will only be open to the public during the week – Monday through Friday – from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
However, building staff will continue to have access during normal business hours.
Although the Capitol will be open to the public, there will be no scheduled events or guided tours “at this time,” according to a news release from Thurston’s office. The 500 Grill and the Capitol Gift Shop will also remain closed.
Individuals who enter the Capitol will be “quested in accordance with Arkansas Department of Health guidelines” by the State Capitol Police. Those who enter the Capitol may be required to observe other safety measures and will be encouraged to practice social distancing.
The Capitol has been closed for approximately two-and-a-half months to date. It has closed to the public since Friday, March 13.
