Martha Ellen Talbot
Owner of Marlsgate Plantation
What is your secret to success?
The key to an authentic, satisfying life is service. I currently serve with three non-profits; experiencing the raw reality of putting yourself in someone else’s painful shoes and working to uplift them has really changed my life.
What do you love most about what you do?
Waking up on Marlsgate Plantation every morning is itself a gift. Through my work, I’m allowed to provide an environment for others to craft meaningful experiences and memories through weddings, gatherings and other celebrations.
What advice would you give to a young woman starting her career?
Nobody starts out knowing everything. Our true calling opens to us along the way; every step and misstep is a marker on the path. Life is embracing each chapter and lesson, and if we serve with a happy heart, the circles of authentic connections will make everything worthwhile.
How do you balance work with your personal life?
I married my high school prom date 3 years ago, and Beau and I hold hands every day while working and dreaming together. Marlsgate Plantation is a reflection of our love and relationship, and positioning our historic property fuels our hearts and minds.
What is your favorite quote?
“We are all just walking each other home.”
