One Arkansas monthly magazine may close down if it does not increase its paid subscriber base.
The publisher of Arkansas Life has announced that the magazine will end publication unless it receives more paid subscribers soon.
According to publisher Walter Hussman, the magazine has “accumulated significant losses over the past 10 years” and cannot sustain itself with its current business model. The Arkansas Democrat-Gazette-owned magazine is supported largely with advertising revenue, Hussman says, and has been operating at a loss.
In order to continue operating, Hussman asks readers to become paid subscribers at a rate of $20 per year by January 15. If enough readers do not respond, the magazine will “soon be gone like so many other printed publications in recent years,” Hussman says.
