Arkansas experienced its largest single-day increase of positive COVID-19 cases on Sunday. State officials announced that there are currently 830 positive cases in Arkansas, an increase of 87 cases from yesterday.
According to Arkansas Department of Health (ADH) Secretary Dr. Nathaniel Smith, the average per-day increase in recent days has been in the low-60s. Yesterday, Gov. Asa Hutchinson and Smith told reporters there were 734 cases in Arkansas.
Two new deaths were announced, bringing the state’s total up to 16. According to the ADH’s website, there have been a total of 9,180 deaths attributed to COVID-19 in the United States. The Johns Hopkins University coronavirus map lists 68,148 total deaths worldwide.
The number of healthcare workers with COVID-19 infections has also increased. There are now 114 healthcare workers who are infected. Smith said that there are 14 physicians, 37 nurses, 11 certified nursing assistants, and 52 various licensed and unlicensed healthcare professionals.
However, the number of hospitalizations due to coronavirus decreased from yesterday’s total. As of Sunday afternoon, there were 67 hospitalized. According to Smith, this is a decrease of five from yesterday.
Two new counties have also reported COVID-19 cases for the first time. These counties are Yell and Phillips counties. Three counties – Dallas, Lafayette and Prairie counties – reported their first COVID-19 cases yesterday.
The counties with reported COVID-19 infections include Arkansas, Ashley, Baxter, Benton, Boone, Bradley, Carroll, Chicot, Clark, Cleburne, Cleveland, Columbia, Conway, Craighead, Crawford, Crittenden, Cross, Dallas, Desha, Drew, Faulkner, Garland, Grant, Greene, Hempstead, Hot Spring, Howard, Independence, Jefferson, Johnson, Lafayette, Lawrence, Lee, Lincoln, Lonoke, Miller, Mississippi, Monroe, Nevada, Newton, Ouachita, Perry, Pike, Poinsett, Polk, Pope, Prairie, Pulaski, Randolph, Saline, Scott, Searcy, Sebastian, Sevier, Sharp, St. Francis, Stone, Union, Van Buren, Washington, White, and Woodruff.
