The Arkansas Arts Center has been awarded a $203,032 grant from the Institute of Museum and Library Services to support the inventory of the Arkansas Arts Center Foundation Collection as well as the rehousing of works to ensure their preservation.
The Arkansas Arts Center was the only Arkansas museum, and one of 109 museums, awarded grants by Museums for America.
This grant will allow the Arkansas Arts Center to make improvements and developments, along with facilitating richer interpretations and improved exhibition creation. The Arts Center will be better poised to create an even more engaging atmosphere for museum goers to its new building, which is currently scheduled to open in 2022.
The grant will also help the Arkansas Arts Center to improve accuracy in identification and organization of collections and origins, research, and loaning artwork to other museums and exhibitions. It will also allow for more secure rehousing and storage of artwork.
The Arkansas Arts Center Foundation Collection contains more than 14,000 works from all over the world. The collection has grown and will continue to grow through strategic purchases of artworks as well as donations and gifts from Arkansans, collectors, and estates.
