Marianna’s iconic and award-winning Jones Bar-B-Q Diner will host a “grand reopening event” on July 14.
The restaurant, located at 219 W. Louisiana St. in Marianna, was destroyed by fire the morning of Feb. 28. Owner Harold Jones is hosting the event with The Venture Center, the Little Rock entrepreneurial support organization, to thank the community for its support in helping him reopen. In the aftermath of the fire, financial support was shared from as far away as New Zealand.Â
Jones Bar-B-Q, opened in the 1910’s, is believed to be the country’s oldest Black-owned restaurant. It was Arkansas’ only James Beard Award-winning restaurant when it won the award in 2012. The James Beard Foundation deemed the diner “an American classic.”
The reopening event, “Fire Up That Grill,” will run from 11 a.m. to 12 noon. For more information, contact Becky Pittman, 501-658-8185.
