The Arkansas Center for Health Improvement is seeking nominations for its annual Dr. Tom Bruce Arkansas Health Impact Award.
Bruce was the University of Arkansas College of Medicine deanand helped to expand the college during his tenure, as well as leading the formation of the Area Health Education Centers to tackle the problem of physician shortages in rural areas. Bruce and his wife Dolores provided $100,000 in seed funding to establish the ACHI.
Each year, the ACHI presents the award to an individual who demonstrates “courageous leadership” and has “sustained records as catalysts for improving the health of all Arkansans,” according to an ACHI release. In addition, the honorees exhibit the core values of the organization: trust commitment, innovation and initiative.
Nominations are being accepted until Thursday, May 6 at noon.
The ACHI Health Policy Board reviews all nominee submissions and selects the winners. Kathy Grisham and Dr. James E. Zini received the award in 2020, while Amy L. Rossi received the award in 2019.
