On Aug. 5, Walmart announced that it is acquiring Volt Systems, a technology company that provides suppliers with enhanced on-demand visibility into merchandising resources.
The technology company describes itself as specializing in “omnichannel engagement” with an eye towards “human-led interactions,” according to the company website. The company’s application delivers current store-level data, analytics and shelf intelligence so that suppliers can plan, forecast and optimize their product assortment. As a result of this data, stores will be better able to anticipate customer demands, reducing the friction caused by out-of-stock products.
Walmart is acquiring Volt Systems outright, including the company, talent, technology and customer agreements. This acquisition reflects the company’s overall focus on improving the shopping experience of its nearly 230 million customers through investments in technology.
